Most people who need to make a change are ambivalent as there are reasons to change (change talk) and reasons not to (sustain talk). Helping people resolve ambivalence through eliciting change talk is often the key to facilitating behavior change. In this workshop, participants will learn how to assess a client’s readiness to change, learn how to differentiate various forms of change talk and learn about evocative questions that elicit change talk. Goal-setting and action planning skills will be reviewed to develop client-focused action plans.
